Reserving

OpenTable alternative without cover fees, flat pricing per venue

Reserving is an OpenTable alternative for restaurants that want reservations on their own website without a fee on every guest. You pay a flat 49 or 149 USD per venue per month, no amount per cover, and the guest list stays yours to export. A busy Saturday costs what a quiet Tuesday costs.

How much does OpenTable charge per cover?

OpenTable publishes three plans. Basic is 149 USD a month plus 1.50 USD for every guest seated from the OpenTable network, and website covers cost 0.25 USD each or 49 USD a month flat. Core is 299 USD and Pro is 499 USD a month, each plus 1.00 USD per network cover, with website covers included.

A network cover is any guest who booked through the OpenTable app, opentable.com or one of its partner channels. That includes regulars who open the app out of habit, so a slice of what you pay for is demand that was already yours. OpenTable also added a 2% service fee on deposits and prepaid experiences in 2026.

Take a restaurant that seats 2,000 reserved covers a month: 1,200 arrive through the OpenTable network and 800 through its own website. Here is what that same month costs on each plan.

Plan Subscription Cover fees on 1,200 network covers Website covers Month total
OpenTable Basic149 USD1,800 USD49 USD flat1,998 USD
OpenTable Core299 USD1,200 USDincluded1,499 USD
OpenTable Pro499 USD1,200 USDincluded1,699 USD
Reserving Growth149 USDnone, every cover is freeincluded149 USD

OpenTable figures are from its published plans for US restaurants and exclude taxes, add-ons and the deposit service fee. Reserving Growth is 119 USD a month when billed yearly. Card processing on deposits is charged by the payment provider on any system, ours included.

What a restaurant gets instead of the per-cover bill

Everything a host needs to run the book during service, on one board, with the booking page running on your domain rather than on a marketplace listing.

  • A booking widget on your own website, styled to match it, plus a booking link for Google and Instagram
  • Party-to-table fit with your turn times and buffers, so one table is never promised twice
  • Deposit and card-hold rules by party size, day part and guest history, on Growth
  • Confirmation at once, reminders 24 hours and 3 hours out, each with one-tap cancel
  • A no-show risk score on every booking, with the factors listed, not hidden
  • Guest records owned by the restaurant and exportable any day, without asking

03

Is there a cheaper alternative to OpenTable?

Yes, if most of your reservations come from people who already know you. A flat-fee system such as Reserving costs 149 USD a month however many guests you seat. What you give up is the OpenTable diner network, so the real question is how many of your network covers are new guests who would not have found you otherwise.

Stay on OpenTable if

  • You are in a tourist district or a new opening, and most covers are first-time diners who searched the app
  • Your own website gets little traffic and you have no Google profile link in use
  • You rely on its dining points program to fill quiet early sittings

In those cases the network is selling you real distribution, and 1.00 to 1.50 USD for a new guest can be a fair price.

Move your book to Reserving if

  • Most guests are regulars, locals or people who searched your name on Google
  • Your cover fees are larger than your subscription most months
  • You run a private dining room, rooms upstairs or a second site and want them on the same board
  • You want the guest list in your own hands for your own email and SMS

Here the fee is a tax on demand you created, and a flat price per venue stops it.

OpenTable, Resy and Reserving side by side

Resy is the other name restaurants usually shortlist. It dropped cover fees altogether and charges a monthly plan instead, from 289 USD a month, with Tock now part of the Resy network. The table below uses each vendor's published US pricing. Where a competitor is stronger, the table says so.

How do I switch from OpenTable without losing bookings?

Pick a cutover date, import your future bookings and guest records, and point every booking button at the new page. Most restaurants run both books for one service so the host team can learn the board before the old system goes quiet.

  1. 01

    Export from OpenTable

Download your guest list and your future reservations. Ask your account manager for the export in writing if it is not in the dashboard, and check your contract for the notice period before you give it.

  2. 02

    Set up the room

Enter tables, seats, turn times per party size, buffers and service windows. A dining room of twenty tables takes an afternoon.

  3. 03

    Import and connect

Bring future bookings and guest records across by CSV, paste the widget snippet on your site, and replace the reserve button on your Google profile and Instagram bio with your booking link.

  4. 04

    Cut over

Run both books for a service, then close new availability on OpenTable. Guests who already hold a booking there keep it and are seated as normal.

FAQ

Questions restaurants ask before leaving OpenTable

See pricing
What is the best alternative to OpenTable?

It depends on where your guests come from. If you need a diner network, Resy is the closest match and has no cover fees, from 289 USD a month. If most guests already know you, a flat-fee system that books on your own website, such as Reserving at 49 to 149 USD per venue, costs far less for the same book.

Does OpenTable charge per reservation?

OpenTable charges per cover, meaning per guest, not per reservation. A party of four booked through the OpenTable network costs 4.00 USD on Core or Pro and 6.00 USD on Basic. Bookings from your own website are included on Core and Pro, and cost 0.25 USD a cover or 49 USD a month flat on Basic.

Is Resy cheaper than OpenTable?

For a busy restaurant, usually yes. Resy charges a flat monthly plan from 289 USD with no cover fees, while OpenTable Core is 299 USD plus 1.00 USD per network cover. Resy's entry plan costs less than Core before a single cover is counted, and it beats OpenTable Basic once a restaurant seats about 94 network covers a month. A small independent restaurant pays less again on a per-venue system.

Can I keep my guest list if I leave OpenTable?

Guests who booked with you directly are your customers, and you can ask OpenTable for an export of your reservation and guest data. What you can take and in what format depends on your plan and contract, so request it in writing before you give notice. On Reserving, the guest list is exportable from the dashboard at any time.

Will I lose covers if I leave OpenTable?

You lose the guests who only find restaurants through the OpenTable app. Check how many network covers were genuinely first visits over the last three months. If most were returning guests, they will book on your website or Google profile instead, and each of those bookings is no longer charged.

Can guests still book from Google?

Yes. Put your booking link on your Google Business Profile as the reservation link, and guests who search for your restaurant book straight onto your board. The same link works in an Instagram bio, in email and on printed menus through a QR code.
