A table booking tool that only writes names into time slots will sell you a party of eight at 20:00 on a night when the only free table seats four. Table reservation software has to know the room: how many seats each table has, how long a party of that size sits there, and what has to be free before the next one arrives.

If the requested time does not survive all four checks, the engine returns the three nearest times that do. Saying no in a way that keeps the booking is most of the value.

The room, described once
You describe the room once and the engine works from it: table numbers, seats, which tables combine, which ones are bar seats, which are outside and which are in the private room. Bookings can be held to a section, so a party of twelve does not end up split across the window.

One timeline the host stand actually uses
The board shows one row per table and one timeline across the service. A booking dragged to another table re-runs the fit instead of just moving a label, so the board cannot be tidied into a clash. Walk-ins go into a queue with a quoted wait, so the door and the book never disagree.
